Country development is NOT represented by currency at all.

It is more indicated by HDI, or Human Development Index.

What is HDI? To put it simple, HDI is value, where a person, is able to “be” and “do” what he likes. In short, it is the quality of a human, or a citizen, living in that country.

HDI takes account of education index, economy index, life expectancy, and freedom.

It still means, that Indonesia has 7th largest GDP per capita, of around $14K, compared to bangladesh $5K per capita. It means, that Indonesian can buy more stuffs than Bangladesh people.

Indonesian has less than 10% poverty line, while bangladesh still has 20.5% poverty line. It means, despite having to work hard to properly nurture themselves, 10% of them are failed to do so. While bangladesh has 20% failed to eat properly.

If you come to Indonesia, despite everyone complains about something they don’t understand of, like national debt, and spouting gibberish, and despite Indonesia exposing car to a very high tax rate, traffic jams are the number one problem in Indonesia. It means, that Indonesian people are able to buy a premium cars. A mediocre car in your country, has a premium price in Indonesia, just because of tax amount added. But that doesn’t stop them to buy one. Even luxurious cars.

More money also means, that more people has access to education. Means, that more than 95% people can read. While I am not convinced that they can read “properly” due to their lack of reading comprehension, Bangladesh still has 73% literacy rate. meaning, more than a quarter of bangladesh people can’t read.

I can go on and on for the disparity, but they key here is not the currency. The key in determining how developed a country is, by how their citizen live. Indonesia has HDI index of 0.707. When you have passed 0.7 mark, you are NOT considered as a developing country anymore. 0.7 is categorized as high. Many highly educated citizen, has freedom of speech, and most of its people are able to live properly. While bangladesh still sits at 0.614. A number between 0.55 to 0.699 is considered as medium, and means that it is developing. Anything below 0.55 is considered as least developing.
