How do I disable my laptop keyboard in Windows 10?
This presupposes that you are using an external USB-connected keyboard.
Most internal laptop keyboards are still connected via the PS/2 port.
As you can see, inside my own Device Manager, I’ve identified the internal keyboard due to the presence of the HP Quick Launch Buttons. Right-click and disable this device. The laptop will rely on the HID (Human Interface Device) USB Keyboard. If you attempt to delete the internal driver, it will always re-install the next time you boot Windows.
If this solution doesn’t work, then you need to resort to a simple hardware hack. Just how simple this is will depend on the age and quality of your laptop. Many internal keyboards are held in place by plastic clips along the top, each located between the function key groupings, and secured by two screws from underneath. This construction is used on laptops which rely on having matched RAM modules on both sides of the motherboard. While accessing the lower RAM module, the screws that release the keyboard are easily found so that the keyboard can be lifted to replace the upper RAM module.
Searching youtube videos will show you how simple this access is. If your laptop fits this category, you can lift the keyboard and detach the internal ribbon connector. The motherboard will never detect the difference and the driver will remain active, but bumping the keyboard won’t influence the computer.
On many of the newer, slimmer models, the keyboard is heat-glued in place, so disabling the driver is the only viable option left to you.
